What is the ‘I Heart Comic Art’ event all about?

Ladykiller and Loot Crate are hosting an indie comic benefit event on Thursday, March 26 to kick off Emerald City Comicon. It's a party, it's a comic art show and it's a charity event to provide an artist grant to a lucky Seattle indie comic artist. The party will feature entertainment, DJs, prizes, FREE drinks, auctions, dancing & COMIC ART.

I'm a local indie comic artist. What do I do?

We are accepting submissions from Seattle indie comic artists/graphic novelists until March 14 to provide YOU with a chance to win an artist grant or several awesome prizes. Click on Artist Submission in the menu above and tell us about you. 

Can I support the cause even if I do not attend the events?

Yes, you can support the benefit by casting your vote for artists on the Ladykiller Facebook page (remember to "like" the page so we can count your vote) from March 18 at noon until March 25 at noon. You can also spread the word about the cause & event. Invite your friends.

100% of proceeds further fund the artist grants. 

Who is eligible to compete/participate?

Any aspiring indie comic artist or graphic novelist who resides in Seattle and is 21+ is eligible. Artists must be able to present a suitable body of comic work & proof that they are actively pursuing their ambition in the comic genre.

When?

7:30pm to 11:30pm : March 26, 2015.  

Where?

Velocity Dance Center, which is located at 1621 12th Avenue on Capitol Hill, near the corner of 12th Ave and Pine. 

Is parking available?

Yes. In addition to on-street parking, the below parking garages are within walking distance to Velocity. Please plan time to park.  Better yet, use Curb (one of this year's generous sponsors!) & take a cab so you can enjoy the drinks and get home safe.

 

Chloe Apartments: 1408 E Union Street, Mon-Sun $3/hr

Seattle Central Community College Harvard Garage: 1609 Harvard Avenue, Mon-Sun $5/day

Harvard Market Garage: 1401 Broadway, Thurs- Sat Nights (7pm-Midnight) $5 flat rate

The Polyclinic Lot: 1145 Broadway, Mon-Fri 6pm-6am $5 flat rate
Multi Space Meter Lot: 1000 E Pike Street, Mon-Sun $10/evening

International Parking Management Garage: 1520 10th Avenue, Mon-Sun $3/hr, $8/evening

Trace Lofts: 1408 12th Avenue, Mon-Sun Paid Garage Parking - Fees Vary up to $8/hr

Tickets?

Tickets can be purchased for $14 at Eventbrite.  It's easy, just click here!

Is the event 21+?

Yes.  We will be serving alcohol at an open bar.  Guests will be ID'ed at the door. 

Can I come if I am not a comic book artist?

Absolutely!  All art lovers/enthusiasts/supporters who like drinks, entertainment, art and fun are welcome.  

What does my ticket get me beyond entry?

An evening of fun, FREE drinks, entertainment, prizes, auctions and ART! Not to mention the opportunities to cast additional votes for your favorite artists.  Follow Ladykiller on Facebook to receive updates on the full lineup of entertainment, featured artists, prizes, auction items.

Can I bring friends?

Absolutely!  All art lovers/enthusiasts/supporters who like drinks, entertainment, art and fun are welcome.

 

If you are a participating artist, we would strongly suggest bringing all your friends & family.  Each attendee gets to cast one vote at the event.  Rack up the votes by bringing a whole gaggle of friends!

Can I purchase tickets at the door?

Yes, a limited number of tickets will be available at the door. We strongly recommend buying your tickets online here.

 

Hurry! We anticipate a quick sell-out. Any remainining tickets will be available at the door for $20.

 

Does the artist need to provide anything beyond their personal/contact info? Art? Digital or physical?

Yes, we will need to see at least a portion of their portfolio of work.  In order to be considered, artists will need to provide us links to sites where their work can be viewed, or if necessary, provide us with digital files of their work.  Artists chosen to participate & eligible for the grant will be asked for physical artwork that we can showcase at the event.  

 

How old does the artist need to be to enter?

21+

Do the artists have to be from Washington?

Yes, this benefit event is specifically for Seattle indy artists.

How does an artist win? How is the winner decided?

It’s pretty simple…the artist who receives the most votes wins.

How do I cast my vote?

You can cast your vote online at either iheartcomicart.ladykiller.co or www.facebook.com/ladykillerllc

Online voting opens and will begin March 18th. 

Do I have to purchase a ticket to cast a vote online?

Absolutely not! Online voting is open to everyone. Just need to Like Ladykiller on Facebook for your vote to count!

Can I vote more than once? If so, how?

You can only cast one vote online.  Each ticket holder & attendee will be provided with the opportunity to cast a single additional vote at the event.  Throughout the evening of the event, all attendees will be presented with several other ways to earn/win additional votes.  

When can I vote? When is voting closed?

Online voting opens on March 18th and will close at noon on March 25th.  Attendees of the benefit event will be able to cast an additional vote during upon their arrival.

What types of auctions will there be? How many auctions? What are the auction items?

There will be a silent auction as well as an exciting live auction.   Starting mid March, we will be periodically posting (all the way up to the day of the event) an updated list of auction items. Follow Ladykiller on Facebook to receive auction updates.

Where do the proceeds from the auctions go?

All auction proceeds will go directly towards the artist grant.  The higher you bid, the more love our local artists will receive!
